Furtherholm Overview – A Midsummer Getaway

At long last, LOTRO’s introduction of Furtherholm means players can finally enjoy a true beach-side getaway with a nice tropical breeze, a blue ocean, and summer celebrations! Also known as Zír Aktar, this island retreat was introduced as a gorgeous alternative destination to Minas Tirith for the Midsummer Festival.

There is a massive amount of content packed into this cozy island getaway. With a full suite of daily repeatables, unique Deeds (“Cat Confusion” and “Guests Gathered”), and a completely non-combat environment, you can easily choose to spend the entirety of your Midsummer Festival right here on the beach if you want to.

Getting Started with Furtherholm

One does not simply walk nor sail to the tropical island of Furtherholm. To gain access to the island for the first time, you must pick up the introductory quest, “A Midsummer Getaway”, from an Umbari NPC named Ikhajât, or interact with the festival horse at the West Bree stables.

Level Requirements: Just like the Minas Tirith wedding content, Furtherholm scales directly to your character’s level, allowing any adventurer level 10 and above to fully participate.

Finding Ikhajât: You can find this quest-giver resting at various major hubs throughout Middle-earth to grant you passage:

  • Bree-town: Inside The Prancing Pony (29.6S, 51.2W), leaning against a pillar just ahead and to your left as you enter.

  • The Shire: Just off to the side of the Party Tree (29.9S, 71.4W), leaning against one of the decorated poles.

  • Minas Tirith (Midsummer): Sitting on the wall right outside the City Stables just inside the main gate.

  • Ered Luin (Duillond): At the Festival Garden (24.6S, 93.0W).

  • Thorin’s Hall: Inside the Thorin’s Hall Inn (13.4S, 103.2W).

Returning to Furtherholm: Getting back to the beach for your dailies is incredibly simple. You can pick up the travel quest “Return to Furtherholm” from Ikhajât at any of the locations listed above to be instantly transported back. Alternatively, you can utilize the dedicated “Festival Travel to Furtherholm” festival horse at the West Bree stables.

Island Quests & Activities

Furtherholm boasts more than enough unique quests to easily complete your overarching daily festival wrapper, In Celebration of Midsummer. The island’s activities are divided between the cozy confines of the local tavern and the sunny shores outside.

  • Gathering Guests (Daily & Weekly Wrappers): This is a special wrapper quest with both a daily and weekly version specifically for Furtherholm island festivities. You should prioritize picking these up immediately for large Midsummer Tokens payouts.

Points of Interest & Important Tips

Before run out onto the sand, there are a few unique island locations, mechanics, and tips to keep in mind to maximize your fun:

  • The Cracked Flagon: This lively tavern serves as the central interior hub of Furtherholm (Zír Aktar). It is where you will speak to Captain Khâtaphos to complete your introductory quest, and it houses key daily quest NPCs like Darôma and the local cook, Sâghlem.

  • The Hobby Master (4.3S, 119.0W): Located right on the sand, this NPC can teach you the Fishing hobby if you haven’t learned it yet. Fishing is needed for the daily quest “Fishing for Advice”. Remember to pack your fishing pole!

  • Kite Vendor Tâlugar: This special Furtherholm vendor sells beautiful, premium kites for your characters in exchange for Midsummer Tokens and Mithril Coins.

  • Token Maximum Reminder: There is a strict currency cap of 250 Midsummer Tokens per character. Because Furtherholm throws a ton of tokens at you quickly, keep a close eye on your Wallet. If you approach the cap, be sure to visit the local barterers and purchase rewards so your hard-earned tokens don’t go to waste.

  • Combat-free Zone: The entire island of Furtherholm (Zír Aktar) is a safe haven. All local wildlife and creatures are completely non-aggressive!

Furtherholm Quest Walkthroughs

A Flock of Seagulls

NPC: Maghôrdo Location: Furtherholm

Not to mention the seagulls might be the reason so many Elven guests of Furtherholm spend their vacations looking wistfully westward.

Maghôrdo is at the boardwalk in Furtherholm, at (3.8S, 119.3W).

Seagulls are found all around the harbor.

  • (3.8S, 118.6W)

  • (4.3S, 118.8W)
  • (4.4S, 118.9W)
  • (4.4S, 118.8W)

Scaring them off is as simple as running up to them. While this is quite fun, remember that other folks have the quest to do, too, and try to leave a few for them to scare off as well.

Assisting the Cook

NPC: Sâghlem Location: The Cracked Flagon – Furtherholm

Isn’t it funny how every cook we meet at any point is lacking some crucial ingredient? And then it’s always “off to the wilderness”, never “peel these potatoes”, or “scour this pot”.

Sâghlem can be found inside the Cracked Flagon tavern.

The ingredients he’s looking for are scattered all over the island, some right on the road, others a little farther off.

  • (4.3S, 119.3W)

Building Castles

NPC: Merkhâma Location: Furtherholm

These castles are fun and all, but shouldn’t we adventurers have seen enough to be able to build a tiny Minas Tirith, or a little-bitty Barad-Dur?

Merkhâma is outside the Cracked Flagon, at (3.8S, 119.0W).

The first castle should be built close to her, at 3.9S, 119.0W).

The second castle should be built in the sand just across the harbor from Merkhâma, at (4.2S, 119.1W).

The next two castles should be built on the southern beach of the island. One should be at (4.9S, 119.1W) and the other at (4.8S, 119.5W).

Cat Conundrum

NPC: Maghôrdo Location: Furtherholm

Cats are making meowy in this town, but some of the visitors aren’t too pleased with them. Some might consider them an attraction, though. Which do you agree with? Churus wisely.

All this quest needs you to do is make up your mind about cats, at least temporarily, and act on it by choosing and completing one of two quests:

  • “Cat Conundrum: Yes to Cats”,

or

  • “Cat Conundrum: No to Cats”.

Don’t worry too much about which to choose, because you will always get the same options tomorrow.

You can only do one of these per day, and doing both (on different days, of course) will get you a deed and title.

Cat Conundrum: No to Cats

NPC: Maghôrdo Location: Furtherholm

We can chase the cats away from any particular spot, sure, but where exactly on this island do you expect them to go that’s that much farther away?

Maghôrdo is at the boardwalk in Furtherholm, at (3.8S, 119.3W).

This quest is one of the two options you get when presented with the “Cat Conundrum” from Maghôrdo. This one has you chasing the cats away from the harbor.

The scruffy cat is at (3.8S, 119.1W).

The sleepy cat is at (3.8S, 118.7W).

The smelly cat is at (3.8S, 118.6W).

The slinky cat is at (4.1S, 119.1W).

The skinny cat is at (4.3S, 118.9W).

The sassy cat is at (4.4S, 118.7W).

Cat Conundrum: Yes to Cats

NPC: Maghôrdo Location: Furtherholm

Carrying around and passing out cat treats sounds like a good way to start a kitty parade. That could be an island attraction all its own!

Maghôrdo is at the boardwalk in Furtherholm, at (3.8S, 119.3W).

This quest is one of the two options you get when presented with the “Cat Conundrum” from Maghôrdo. This one has you giving treats to the cats to get them to hang around the harbor.

The sleepy cat is at (3.8S, 118.7W).

The smelly cat is at (3.8S, 118.6W).

Beach clean-up is a noble undertaking, and a chance to find washed-up treasure! (Theoretically, anyway.) Why not get paid for it?

Maghôrdo is at the boardwalk in Furtherholm, at (3.8S, 119.3W).

The junk you need to pick up is scattered all along the southern beach, specifically at:

  • (4.6S, 118.4W)

  • (4.7S, 118.6W)

Fishing for Advice

NPC: Merkhâma Location: Furtherholm

Fishes, precious?

Merkhâma is outside the Cracked Flagon, at (3.8S, 119.0W).

Having the Fishing Hobby trained is required to complete this quest. There is a Hobby master nearby at (4.3S, 119.0W) if you don’t have it yet.

The fishing spots you need to try are indicated by a “Fishing” buff applied to your character, and usually also some turbulent water that you can see a few fish in.

One spot you need to try is in the harbor just southeast of Merkhâma, at (4.2S, 118.8W).

Another spot is a little to the west, but still in the harbor, at (4.1S, 119.1W).

Another is at the top of the waterfall overlooking the harbor, at (3.7S, 119.6-7W).

Finally you’ll want to head north of the island to a sandbar at (2.6S, 119.4W).

Gathering Guests (Weekly)

NPC: Captain Khâtaphos Location: The Cracked Flagon – Furtherholm

In recognition of your commitment to the Furtherholm Travel Agency.

This quest is a weekly wrapper, requiring you to do the quest “Gathering Guests (daily)” seven times while the festival is active. The seven days don’t have to be consecutive.

Housekeeping

NPC: Darôma Location: The Cracked Flagon – Furtherholm

I thought we did festivals to escape from the mundane adventuring chores….

Darôma is inside The Cracked Flagon.

The rooms you need to tidy up are also inside The Cracked Flagon. This one is a nice quick, easy quest to add to your wrapper total for the day.

Let’s go Fly a Kite

NPC: Tâlugar Location: Furtherholm

This is probably the first person to tell me to “go fly a kite” so nicely. I’m usually happy to oblige, but this makes me want to pick a pretty one.

Tâlugar is outside of The Cracked Flagon at (4.4S, 119.0W).

This quest requires you to have some form of kite cosmetic pet. These are available to barter at festivals (like this one!) and also available through the LotRO store. Tâlugar also conveniently has some to barter, and though most of his are for mithril coins, there are a couple that are available for regular festival tokens. If you want to check if you already have one before purchasing another, you can see all the pets you have (as well as those you don’t yet have) in the collections panel, which is keybound to Shift + C by default. The search bar at the top can help you find all your kites in a flash.

One spot he wants you to fly a kite in is in front of the Cracked Flagon at (3.9S, 118.6W).

Another spot is at the eastern Bridge of the harbor, at (4.1S, 118.8W).

Then there’s the other end of the harbor to the west at (4.1S, 119.1W).

Heading to the beach, the optimal kite-flying spot by the cove is on the eastern end at (4.7S, 119.0W), and the “southern beach” has one at (4.8S, 119.0W).

NPC: Merkhâma Location: Furtherholm

I think I’ll go check this spot over here close to the lifeguard’s chair-on-stilts set-up….

Merkhâma is outside the Cracked Flagon, at (3.8S, 119.0W).

The swimming spots she wants you to check out are all around the island. You’ll know when you are in the right spot when you get white floating text commentary about how the swimming is. Fun note: This text is different for Hobbits/River Hobbits than for other races.

The west side of the harbor location is (4.2S, 119.0W).

The southern cove swimming spot is at (4.7S, 119.9W).

The northern channel spot is at (2.9S, 119.5W).

The western beach is at (3.1S, 121.6W).

The southwestern beach is at (4.2S, 120.8W).
