Welcome to our Minas Tirith (Midsummer) Guide for the Midsummer Festival in the Lord of the Rings Online! This guide contains an overview of Midsummer Minas Tirith in LOTRO, as well as a comprehensive walkthrough of every Minas Tirith (Midsummer) quest! Navigate to our full Midsummer Festival guide for a complete Midsummer festival guide and to find Furtherholm, Eriador, and Volume V guides.
Welcome to the White City! For the Midsummer Festival, Minas Tirith has been completely transformed into a breathtaking, flower-draped celebration for the Great Wedding of King Aragorn II Elessar and Arwen Undómiel.
Unlike a standard festival landscape in LOTRO’s open Middle-earth, Midsummer Minas Tirith is a special instanced version of the multi-tier city separate from the rest of the world. Because there are dozens of quests spread across seven different elevations, navigating the city efficiently is the key to maximizing your Midsummer Token farming!
When you first arrive, you will find yourself at the City Stables in the First/Workers’ Tier. Your first useful stop is the Midsummer Reveller, located just inside the main gate at (22.5N, 53.5W). Pick up the introductory quest, A Midsummer’s Welcome, to officially kick off your festival experience.
Level Requirements: Just like the rest of the Midsummer event, the instanced version of Minas Tirith scales directly to your character’s level, allowing any adventurer level 10 and above to fully participate.
Stepping through the main gates of Minas Tirith during Midsummer can be incredibly overwhelming. With seven towering tiers of marble, hundreds of bustling festival-goers, and flower petals drifting through the air, it is easy to get lost before you even begin your celebrations.
Unlocking the Stables: Before straying too far from the main gate, discover the First Tier stable-master right at the entrance. Buy a quick, cheap ride directly to the High Stables (Sixth Tier), which drops you right at the tunnel leading to the Citadel ramp. From there, you can run down the city to easily find and unlock the stable-masters on Tiers 5 → 4 → 3 → 2. Doing this once will save you hours of running!
Master the Select Keys: Having trouble clicking a tiny bottle, firefly, or dropped paper when the visuals get cluttered with flowers and players? Don’t use your mouse — using keyboard shortcuts is a lifesaver!
Press Delete (default) to target the nearest item.
Press Backspace (default) to cycle through nearby targets if the first one wasn’t what you needed.
Press U (default) to interact with the targeted item.
While Faeleth handles the main festival wrappers down at the city gates, the bulk of your daily token farming will take place in specific hubs tucked away in the upper tiers.
The true heart of the Great Wedding celebration takes place inside Merethrond, the great banquet hall located in the Seventh Tier/Citadel courtyard.
If you reach the Citadel and cannot find the banquet quests, it is because they are locked behind the Epic Story. To access Toldir and the banquet dailies, you must first complete Volume V, Book 1, Chapter 7: A Wedding at Midsummer.
If you need help getting caught up to unlock the doors to the feast, check out our complete guide.
Once inside, the banquet features a unique set of quests with strict daily limitations:
The Daily Guest Limit: You can only complete one specific guest’s banquet quest (e.g., helping Frodo, Gimli, or Legolas) per day. These individual quests reward 1 Midsummer Token.
The Wrapper Nuance: The individual guest quests do not count toward your overarching daily festival wrapper. However, the parent quest that tasks you with helping a guest—A Long-awaited Banquet, A Celebration without End—does count toward your daily wrapper and rewards 3 Midsummer Tokens.
Midsummer features a set of daily crafting quests grouped under the “Without a Hitch” banner. These are handed out by Melthend, located inside the House of Craft on the north side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier at (23.2N, 54.9W).
You only need Apprentice-level training in your chosen profession to craft the required Strawberry Buns, Wedding Centrepieces, Banners, or Drinking Horns.
Save Midsummer Tokens: You can barter directly with Melthend for the ingredient kits needed for these recipes, but doing so costs Midsummer Token — which ruins your token profits! Instead, complete the festival gathering quests scattered around the city first. These award the necessary ingredient kits for “free” (costing only a little time), maximizing your total tokens!
Before you start running your daily routes, keep these Minas Tirith & Midsummer mechanics and technical tips in mind to make your festival experience much smoother.
Improve Performance: Minas Tirith is massive. With the added Midsummer decorations, countless NPCs, and heavy player crowds, you might experience FPS drops or game crashes. In your Advanced Graphics settings, lower your Object Draw Distance and Player Crowd Quality to increase your framerate without ruining the beautiful scenery.
Token Maximum Reminder: There is a strict currency cap of 250 Midsummer Tokens per character. Minas Tirith throws a ton of tokens at you quickly, so keep a close eye on your Wallet to ensure your hard-earned tokens don’t go to waste!
VIP Town Services: If you are a VIP subscriber, remember to get Town Services by talking to Wenda Cranesbill (located in various locations throughout Middle-earth) before beginning your Midsummer adventures so you don’t have to find these services yourself.
Free-to-Play City Services: If you are Free-to-Play, you do not need to leave the festival to manage your inventory! The Midsummer instanced version of Minas Tirith still offers essential services so you can empty your bags or check the Auction House during your adventures:
Vault-keeper & Auctioneer: Located inside the House of Craft, on the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier (on the north side of the tier; 23.2N, 54.9W).
Crafting Facilities: Standard forges, ovens, and workbenches are all fully functional inside the House of Craft on the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier.
Mailboxes: Found next to some of the Stable-masters, as well as various locations throughout the City.
Our cartographers are hard at work drawing up a map to help you navigate the Midsummer version of Minas Tirith. Check back later and in the meantime, let us know what would be most helpful for you!
Start here! An unnamed party-goer tells you to present yourself to the King. And you do so. Such is the power of quest rings.
The reveller can be found by the City Stables, just inside the main gate at (22.5N. 53.5W).
Aragorn is all the way at the top of the city, in the Seventh Tier/Citadel.
It helps to discover the First Tier stable-master, then buy a ride from him to the only place you have unlocked, the High Stables. That should put you out in the Sixth/Masters’ Tier. Then you’ll want to turn around and go through the tunnel you just rode through on your stable horse. When you come out, the ramp will be the first u-turn on your right.
Once you’re in the courtyard, look to the west for the most ornate and obvious door, flanked by giant swan wings and toasty blue roses. This should lead to the throne room, or the Tower of Ecthelion. Aragorn is predictably near his throne, waaay at the other end of this giant room. That does give up plenty of time to admire the immaculate floor polish.
Merilien is outside the throne room, in the courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
Ioreth the healer wants you to shoo the party out of her hospital, and clean up after them, too.
The High Hall is near the bottom of the ramp to the Citadel. Its plaque and door are labeled and delete-targetable if you have trouble finding them.
The bottles you have to pick up are delete-targetable and will slowly respawn, but there should usually be plenty.
The noisy revellers are spread out, with a whole group of NPCs having just one noisy one among them. They respawn a little more quickly than the bottles do, so a little patience will get you there if they’ve all been too-recently shushed.
This is a quest to do another quest: help one of the attendees of the banquet.
The banquet hall of Merethrond is to the right of the throne room door. The door is unhelpfully hidden behind a chunk of building, but you can find it if you go to the northern edge of the citadel courtyard and look for black pillars. These pillars are hiding both entrances to a u-shaped porch, and in the middle of this porch is your door.
Toldir is just inside the door, and all the banqueters that need your help are upstairs.
Note that you can only do one banquet quest per day, and only while this quest, “A Celebration Without End” is active. Whichever banquet quest you choose for the day will not count toward your daily wrapper, but doing a banquet quest is necessary to complete *this* quest, and this quest *will* count toward your daily wrapper.
This quest will only be available after you have completed Chapter 7 of the Epic questline associated with the Great Wedding. (That’s Volume V. Book 1, Chapter 7: A Wedding at Midsummer.) Though this Epic Volume technically takes place at that particular place in the story in the Fourth Age of Middle-Earth, it can be completed independently of any other Epic questlines and at any point during the year.
Frodo feels he has a lot to write down after recent events, and wants you to bring him the supplies.
The supplies can be found scattered on tables in either the Houses of Lore near the southern end of the Fifth/Sages’ Tier at (21.7N, 56.3W) or in the Blue Theater on the southern end of the Player’s Tier at (21.5N, 56.6W).
Sam feels himself troubled by thoughts of home, but really just wants to enjoy his well-earned peace. And dinner.
The alcove Sam wants to talk to you in is down the stairs on the southwest side of the room. If you follow Sam’s gaze all the way across the banquet room, leaping over tables as you go and making sure you’re to the right of the planter, you’ll get there.
Sam’s troubled thoughts are scattered throughout the banquet hall.
Merry thinks he could be making merrier at this party, if only he had his pipe-weed.
The prow of Minas Tirith is the great long runway up a few stairs east of the courtyard. The supposed location of the pipeweed is all the way down at the other end.
The Southern Great Guesthouse is across the citadel courtyard from Merethrond, on the south side between 2 large black pillars that form a flower-covered archway overhead. Inside, there’s a hall that leads to a big room. Go left (stay on the first floor) and down that hallway to the baths. (This hallway is easy to see if you open your map.)
The High Stables are on the sixth/Masters’ Tier at (22.6N, 55.6W). To get there from the Citadel courtyard, go to the northeast wall to find the ramp down, then at the bottom of the ramp, turn left and go through the tunnel. The High Stables are on the left wall as you exit the tunnel.
The stairs you’re looking for to the kitchen are to the left as you enter Merethrond.
Pippin has become the sort of hobbit that enjoys a good time while also making sure his friends are looked after, as well.
The kitchens of Merethrond are down the stairs from the main level.
The Old Guesthouse is all the way down in the First/Workers’ Tier of the city. You can get there by stable-master, or by gravity. Whichever’s most fun.
Pippin should still be where you left him, and Beregond should also be at the feast.
Gimli’s quest is one of the quickest at the banquet. He mostly just wants to chat.
“Drink” with Gimli means click the pitcher on the table. “Listen” to Gimli means to use the “listen” emote. To do this, select Gimli and then:
Galadriel is also at the banquet.
Legolas wants another game against Gimli, only this time they’ll be counting drinks instead of orcs.
The kitchens of Merethrond are down the stairs from the main level.
“Challenge” Gimli means to use the “challenge” emote. To do this, select Gimli and then:
Though enjoying the festive atmosphere, Faramir’s mind is on those he has lost in recent times, and he wants help laying his worries to rest.
The horn is on the table in front of Faramir, and the sapling of the white tree is outside in the Citadel courtyard next to the largest fountain.
Ever-mysterious, this wizard. What could he want with books at the dinner table?
The High Guesthouse is quite near Merethrond, just turn right as you go out and keep right as you leave the covered porch area. The door to the High Guesthouse is short, flanked by black pillars with a white flower garland across the top. It is also noticeably bigger on the inside.
Gandalf’s Room is on the second floor of the High Guesthouse. It’s the room that sticks out clearly from the square common area if you open your map.
Yes, he makes you wait before talking to him again. “A wizard completes your quest precisely when he means to,” or something like that, I suppose.
“My words fail me…
…I would offer a toast to all in attendance tonight.”
Thus sayeth the King.
Pretty much every table needs to be hushed. Do this by clicking on the white sparkling section on top of each table. Having floaty names on (toggled on and off with ‘n’ by default) can help with targeting them.
An influx of festival guests to the city means extra horses to take care of. Apparently your average Gondorian doesn’t just keep them in a collections panel.
The City Stables are behind the First Tier stable-master.
The grooming brush and apples are in crates in the middle of the back wall of the stables, on the raised section you get to via the stairs in the back corners of the room.
The horses are in the stalls on either side of the walkway that loops around the room, as well as in the center grassy area. They are delete-targetable, if you’re having any trouble finding them all.
You know what this city needs? More flowers. Definitely.
These arrangements will all go on the stage area of their respective establishments.
Two places for floral arrangements are in the Merry Swan tavern on the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier. (21.0N, 56.6W).
Two are “in” the Hall of Air, in the Fifth/Sages’ Tier at (23.1N, 56.3W).
Three are in the Blue Theatre on the Fourth/Sages’ Tier at (21.5N, 56.5W).
Borlach isn’t from around here. Neither are you, most likely, but you have a map and will work for festival tokens.
Borlach is a nondescript Gondorian fellow wearing blue and hanging out by the Second/Soldiers’ Tier Stable-master.
The garneder Lebadar is on the opposite side of the Second/Soldiers’ Tier, by the bottom of the ramp that connects the Second and Third Tiers at (23.8N, 54.9W).
The Potter is by the House of Craft on the north side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier at (23.3N, 54.9W). Not inside, just quite near the door.
Ciriel the chef is by her oven on the south side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier, at (21.0N, 55.3W).
Easily-distracted children are a force of nature. And the cause of many a quest.
The Florist’s Daughter is playing in a grassy area to the left of the walkway if you’re headed south from the city’s main gate toward the ramp to the second tier. More specifically, at (21.7N, 53.8W).
The flowers she wants you to collect are all in grassy spots nearby, and are delete-targetable if you’re having trouble seeing them through all the bushes.
To make the crowns, interact with the blue blanket on the ground near the Florist’s Daughter. If this blanket isn’t interactable, it’s just a bit of a quest bug and relogging should fix it.
What says “summer” more than a day in the garden? Especially if you can get someone else to do the whole ‘gardening’ part.
Lebadar is at the bottom of the ramp that connects the second and Third Tiers, at (23.8N, 54.9W).
The garden he wants you to tend is on the north end of the Third Tier, So that’s heading up the ramp behind him, making a right at the top, and walking until you’re there. There being (23.7N, 57.0W).
The weeds to pull are large, but the bushes to water are huge, so zooming out can help you to get a good perspective on them.
“Much better than delivering debt notices, is it not?” – The Postmaster
The Postmaster can be found inside the House of Craft, at (23.2N, 54.9W).
The particular building you need to deliver to is the House of Remedies on the south side of the Sixth/Masters’ Tier. It is **notes on reaching the door** at (21.9N, 56.1W).
Escape the frenetic festival atmosphere to a quiet corner of Middle-Earth and spend a while on a summer night catching fireflies.
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
This quest is a generic quest to complete one of four specific quests that unlock once you pick up this one. So make sure that once you pick up this quest, you talk to Merilien again to get a specific color of fireflies to hunt down.
The Grimwater in Ered Luin is apparently home to purple fireflies this time of year, a pleasant addition to its usual Dourhand and hendroval population.
The Grimwater can be found in Ered Luin, north of Gondamon. The lake is outside of the Dourhand camp named after it at (17.6S, 94.8W).
Fireflies only appear at night, from Gloaming through Foredawn. You can see the time of day by hovering over the sun or moon icon to the upper left on your mini-map.
The alcove where two of the lanterns go is at (22.0N, 56.3W).
The lanterns headed to the Houses of Healing are for the House of Remedies, on the south side of the Sixth/Masters’ Tier, at (21.9N, 56.1W). The lanterns go in the central courtyard there.
Green fireflies in the Midgewater, you say? Are we sure they’re not just some form of bioluminescent neeker-breekers?
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
The emerald fireflies are found in Bree-land, east of Bree town in the marsh at (30.4S, 43.7W).
Fireflies only appear at night, from Gloaming through Foredawn. You can see the time of day by hovering over the sun or moon icon to the upper left on your mini-map.
The Merry Swan is on the southern side of the Thrid/Craftsmen’s Tier at (21.0N, 56.6W). The stage area is up the stairs to the left of the bar as you enter.
Red may be an odd color for fireflies, but perhaps the bog here is merely remembering slug-slayers past.
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
The ruby fireflies are found in the Shire, in the Rushock Bog to the north of Michel Delving, specifically at (29.0S, 74.5 W).
Fireflies only appear at night, from Gloaming through Foredawn. You can see the time of day by hovering over the sun or moon icon to the upper left on your mini-map.
The Hall of Air has spots for lanterns at (23.1N, 56.3W).
Gotta love that Ered Luin blue.
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
The sapphire Fireflies are around the lake down the hill from Dol Ringwest, west of Duillond at (24.4S, 94.6W).
Fireflies only appear at night, from Gloaming through Foredawn. You can see the time of day by hovering over the sun or moon icon to the upper left on your mini-map.
The Court of Voronwë is on the southern side of the Fourth/Players’ Tier. The spots for the lanterns are at (21.7N, 55.3W) and (21.4Nm 55.4W)
I don’t know about you, but when it comes to this relationship, I’m rooting for the paper airplanes.
Colladan is in the Houses of Lore on the south side of the Fifth/Sages’ Tier, entrance at (21.7N, 56.3W).
The papers are found on both floors of the room. They count as NPCs for targeting purposes. If there are other players snatching them up, fear not; they will respawn.
It is your duty as a festival-enjoying adventurer to turn the “Room with Dead Things” into the “Room with Flowers. And Also Dead Things” It’s so much cheerier that way!
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
The Houses of Lore are on the south side of the Fifth/Sages’ Tier, at (21.7N, 56.3W).
Four of the arrangements go on tables downstairs, two on a table by the fireplace, and two on a table by the stairs. The other two go upstairs, past Colladan and at the feet of a troll.
Everyone knows some of the hallmarks of the artistic temperament are a love of punctuality and a keen sense of direction.
The Blue Theatre is on the Fourth/Sages’ Tier at (21.5N, 56.5W).
Duillam is waiting for help just inside the door.
The Cloudyheads are scattered throughout the venue. Don’t forget to check the second floor and backstage. (Map coming soon!)
Passing out pastries is a pretty sweet gig. “One for you, one for me, one for the next, another for me….”
Ciriel the chef is by her oven on the south side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier, at (21.0N, 55.3W).
The pastries are on her oven.
The Hungry Guards are labeled as such and are patrolling the entire southern half of the Third Circle, with two on either side of Ciriel and her oven. You can just wander around and wait for their rings to appear on the minimap, or some general coordinates are (21.8N, 54.6W), (21.3N, 55.1W), (21.0N, 55.7W), and (20.9N, 56.1W).
A matter of palette such as this is quite a task to outsource.
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
The Splintered Shield is on the Second/Soldiers’ Tier at (20.6N, 55.6W).
The wines are laid out for tasting in the basement. When you enter the Splintered Shield, skip past the stairs and take the left hallway, then the first right.
The wine you need for the quest is not guaranteed to be in the same spot on the table every time, but the wrong wines are – they are there all the time. Picking up the quest causes the quest objective wine to spawn for you. So if you look at the table while you don’t have the quest, or someone helpful takes a picture of the table with only the incorrect wines present (coming soon!), you need the wine on the table that isn’t shown in the picture.
Being tasked with passing out free food is fun! Even if it’s not entirely clear what we’re passing out. Who doesn’t love a good mystery meat?
Othnoron is on the south side of the Citadel courtyard.
The fancy folk he wants you to pass out samples to are all on the southern half of the Fourth/Players’ Tier.
Daghir is at (21.8N, 55.0W),
Pelnen is at (21.5N, 55.4W).
Gwárben is at (21.3N, 55.7W).
Arastil is at (21.4N, 56.1W).
Brandion is at (21.3N, 56.3W).
There might be better places to nurse a hangover than the common room of a tavern overtaken by Midsummer festival-fueled minstrels. Then again, in this town, at this time, perhaps not?
The Splintered Shield is on the southern half of the Second/Soldiers’ Tier at (20.6N, 55.6W).
Ulthir is on the second floor of the common room.
The minstrels are scattered about the entirety of the place, including the second-floor sleeping quarters in the basement. Even though the minstrels respawn, you can’t do the same spawn location twice.
Dogs as habitual engagement ring thieves. This quest is an odd one.
The worried woman is at the bottom of the ramp to the Craftsmen’s Tier Stable-master, on the north side of the Second/Soldiers’ Tier.
The dog you want is one on the eastern side of the pack.
So many of these packages look kind of already-delivered…. Is this quest the reason Melthend’s shipments always seem to go missing?
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
The Wedding Supplies are on the Third Tier. They are scattered by doorsteps, mostly. There are a couple in the House of Craft (23.2N, 54.9W).
One of the longer and more involved beer runs to be found in all of LotRO.
Merilien is in the Citadel courtyard, northeast of the fountain.
The Thirsty Seer is on the southern side of the Fifth/Sages’ Tier at (21.8N, 56.5W).
The Merry Swan is on the southern side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier at (21.0N, 56.6W).
The Splintered Shield is on the southern side of the Second/Soldiers’ Tier at (20.6N, 55.6W).
The Mûmak and Keep is on the southern end of the Second/Soldiers’ Tier at (20.8N, 56.9W).
The one downside of doing yummy food quests is that now I want a strawberry bun, too.
The House of Craft is on the north side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier at (23.2N, 54.9W).
Melthend is inside, towards the back of the room.
This is a crafting quest, requiring:
*Earned by doing other Midsummer quests, namely “Ruby Firefly Lanterns” and the Shire Midsummer quests, “Deceptive Invitations” and “Flowers that Fester”. You can also barter with Melthend for the ingredients, but doing so requires Midsummer tokens that will cut into or possibly eliminate your profit. Some folks will also put ingredient kits or finished products on the Auction House.
Once you have the ingredients, craft up six or more Strawberry Buns from the recipe (it’s Apprentice Level, if you’re wondering where in your crafting tab it went). If you’re on a character that can’t cook, you can have an alt or someone else craft them for you and you can still turn them in.
Something I could stand to have specified: Are these holding flowers, candles, balloons, chocolates, bubbles, or is this one of those weddings with all of the above?
The House of Craft is on the north side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier at (23.2N, 54.9W).
Melthend is inside, towards the back of the room.
This is a crafting quest, requiring:
*Earned by doing other Midsummer quests, namely “Sapphire Firefly Lanterns” and the Celondim and Duillond Midsummer quests, “Coming Home” and “Cords of Love”. You can also barter with Melthend for the ingredients, but doing so requires Midsummer tokens that will cut into or possibly eliminate your profit. Some folks will also put ingredient kits or finished products on the Auction House.
Once you have the recipe and ingredients, craft up three or more Wedding Centrepieces from the recipe (it’s Apprentice Level, if you’re wondering where in your crafting tab it went). If you’re on a character that isn’t a Scholar or Jeweller, you can have an alt or someone else craft them for you and you can still turn them in.
The flavor text possibilities are endless.
The House of Craft is on the north side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier at (23.2N, 54.9W).
Melthend is inside, towards the back of the room.
This is a crafting quest, requiring:
*Earned by doing other Midsummer quests, namely “Emerald Firefly Lanterns” and the Bree Midsummer quests, “All Fired Up” and “Filled to the Brim”. You can also barter with Melthend for the ingredients, but doing so requires Midsummer tokens that will cut into or possibly eliminate your profit. Some folks will also put ingredient kits or finished products on the Auction House.
Once you have the ingredients, craft up three or more Banners of the Newly-wed from the recipe (it’s Apprentice Level, if you’re wondering where in your crafting tab it went). If you’re on a character that isn’t a Tailor or Woodworker, you can have an alt or someone else craft them for you and you can still turn them in.
Drinking horns are great for parties – You can’t set them down until they’re empty!
The House of Craft is on the north side of the Third/Craftsmen’s Tier at (23.2N, 54.9W).
Melthend is inside, towards the back of the room.
This is a crafting quest, requiring:
*Earned by doing other Midsummer quests, namely “Amethyst Firefly Lanterns” and the Thorin’s Hall Midsummer quests, “A Midsummer Shine” and “More Precious than Mithril”. You can also barter with Melthend for the ingredients, but doing so requires Midsummer tokens that will cut into or possibly eliminate your profit. Some folks will also put ingredient kits or finished products on the Auction House.
Once you have the ingredients, craft up three or more Drinking Horns from the recipe (it’s Apprentice Level, if you’re wondering where in your crafting tab it went). If you’re on a character that isn’t a Metalsmith or Weaponsmith, you can have an alt or someone else craft them for you and you can still turn them in.
