LOTRO Champion Class Guide, Builds, & Resources

The Champion is a free class available to all LOTRO players. Inspired by Gimli, Champions are relentless warriors at the forefront of battle. They excel at overwhelming their foes through sheer martial prowess, building up a unique resource called Fervour with basic strikes to unleash devastating finishing maneuvers. Champions may specialize their combat towards massive area-of-effect (AoE) sweeps, high-impact single-target damage, or take a more defensive approach as a sturdy tank.

Why Play a Champion?

You should choose a Champion if you love being in the thick of the action and slicing through multiple enemies at once. They are famously known as the premier AoE damage dealers in Middle-earth, making leveling and clearing groups of mobs incredibly fast and satisfying. In group content, a skilled Champion is highly valued for their unmatched ability to quickly burst down enemy reinforcements.

Weapons & Armour

In terms of gear, Champions wear Heavy Armour to withstand the brutal front lines of melee combat. They are masters of arms and can wield almost any weapon type, though they typically prefer swords, axes, or maces. Depending on their playstyle, Champions will either dual-wield two one-handed weapons for a flurry of rapid strikes or wield a massive two-handed weapon for huge, slow-hitting bursts of damage.
